In a recent Thangalaan promotional event, Kollywood’s critically acclaimed filmmaker Pa Ranjith confirmed that he is making a Hindi film ‘but the hero has not been decided yet’. He promised to make an official announcement soon.

His films, including Madras, Kaala, Kabali, Sarpatta Parambarai, and Natchathiram Nagargiradhu, have established him as a filmmaker to be reckoned with in Indian cinema. He uses politics and art to effect social change. Pa Ranjith feels that his kind of film should encourage thought, debate, and conversation among viewers. After completing two successful films in 2024, Blue Star and J Baby, he is currently anticipating the release of his masterpiece, Thangalaan, which stars Vikram.

The Kabali director also spoke about caste discrimination in the Tamil industry. He said, ”All domains are affected by caste discrimination; however, it is sometimes plainly apparent and sometimes invisible. Caste prejudice is a covert practice in the film industry. Prior to now, there have been a few films that addressed caste prejudice and Dalits, but they weren’t financially successful. So, when I pitched screenplays to producers, there was no successful precedent.

He further said,” One time, after I showed him the script, my friend glanced over it and advised me to cut out the opening scene that featured the Ambedkar Jayanthi celebration because the producers wouldn’t approve of it. Certainly, I encountered a few problems similar to this at the beginning of my work. When I first entered the film industry, not all of the producers wanted to collaborate with me, to put it mildly. They were aware that I was discussing sociopolitical concerns, but they were unsure of what I was talking about. However, things began to change eventually, particularly following Madras’s success. People are now aware of the politics I depict in my movies.
