Tollywood’s RRR and Kannada cinema’s KGF 2 grossed over Rs 100 crores worldwide. They are two of the biggest box office hits of 2022 by a comfortable margin.
Now, the Rs 1000 crores gross mark appears to have snowballed into a big concern for Tamil cinema.
Tamil cinema consistently produces artful and enriching films, but they are lagging behind when it comes to money box office grossers.
Tollywood already has two more potential Rs 1000 crores grossers – Pushpa 2 and Salaar, but Tamil cinema has none in this regard. This is the only aspect the Tamil film industry is lacking at.
The talk on social media is that Tamil filmmakers cannot blend commercial filmmaking with grandeur, which could be the reason they haven’t produced a Rs 1000 crores grosser till now.
Also, Tamil films have a very little market outside Tamil Nadu, and they haven’t yet cracked open the all-important Hindi market to even dream of a Rs 1000 crores grosser.
