Amrita Singh
Saif Ali Khan, or the chote nawab of Pataudi, married yesteryear actress Amrita Singh in October 1991. Unfortunately, their marriage came to a shocking halt 13 years and two children later when the couple separated. Sharmila said that it wasn’t a happy time for the family. She added that Saif and the whole family had to come to terms with losing Amrita and the kids, Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan, at the time.
While the duo has moved on peacefully in their lives, they had extensively levied many allegations against one another for their split back then. Saif spoke a lot about his troubled marriage, and here’s what he said back then. He said, “It isn’t nice to be constantly reminded of how worthless you are and to have taunts, jeers, insults and abuses thrown at your mother and sister all the time.”
Sara Ali Khan also shared how she and Ibrahim used to guilt-trip their parents about separation and getting ice cream. She said, “Sometimes, we played the victim card. In an obvious way, in my family dynamic. Like, ‘Abba is not here mummy, give this to us,’ at the age of 11, or, ‘Abba, you don’t live with us, give this to us,’ at the age of 15.”
Talking about Saif and Amrita’s split, the Amar Prem actress said, “When you are together for such a long time and have such lovely children, then no break up is easy. Then, it is not harmonious. I know it is difficult to have harmony at that stage, everybody is hurt…so that stage was not nice but I tried. But that’s water under the bridge, and she needed time to cool down.”
