Wrapping Up Last Week’s Box Office: Worst Ever

A highly anticipated blockbuster lineup turned into a box office nightmare. April, typically a promising month for movie releases, saw disappointment instead of success.

Box Office Disasters

Tollywood’s “Family Star,” featuring Vijay Deverakonda and Mrunal Thakur, failed to meet expectations. The film received negative reviews, disappointing both audiences and investors.

“Bade Miyan Chote Miyan” became one of Indian cinema’s biggest flops, despite its massive budget. With a budget of Rs 350 Cr, the action thriller failed to generate significant buzz.

Opening weekend numbers were dismal, with domestic earnings of just 40 Cr and 3 Million overseas. The film’s lifetime earnings are projected to fall far short of expectations, resulting in staggering losses.

The film’s fortunes plummeted further, with Monday collections scraping a mere Rs 2 crore. Its lifetime earnings are projected to barely touch 60 crores, resulting in a staggering loss exceeding 200 crores, despite some recovery from the UK rebate.

Ajay Devgn’s “Maidaan” also faced commercial disaster, despite positive reviews. Its earnings in the first five days were below expectations, failing to justify its high budget.

The overexposure of stars like Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn was cited as a factor in the downturn. In today’s entertainment landscape, stars must carefully balance their projects to maintain appeal. Simply flooding the market with films isn’t a guarantee of success in the age of streaming services.

2024 High Budget Films

“Bade Miyan Chote Miyan” attempted heavy corporate bookings and ticket cuttings, but to no avail. Even with corporate bookings, the film failed to achieve success. The delayed release of “Devara” may have impacted the industry’s fortunes.

There’s also highly anticipated films like Pushpa 2, Game Changer, Kanguva in the line up of 2024 releases which may also disappoint audience or surpass highest earning box office collections shattering records crossing Rs 1000 crores. Overall, it was a disastrous week for the Indian film industry, with significant losses to recover from.
