Many people were perplexed by Olivia Rodrigo’s spectacular performance at Tuesday night’s MTV Video Music Awards.
The stage appeared to malfunction midway through the 20-year-old starlet’s performance, with a piece of lighting equipment falling from the roof and fireworks bursting as Rodrigo was briefly taken offstage. However, the malfunction was planned as a wink to a comparable scenario from the singer’s music video for the latest track “Vampire.”
However, the prank put many spectators in a worried state. Selena Gomez was seen widening her eyes and placing one palm over her ear throughout the performance, and fans instantly shared pictures and video footage of her response.
The Only Murders in the Building actress has now ended any rumours regarding her expression throughout Rodrigo’s performance.
Gomez has already expressed concern about her facial expressions becoming viral following the 2023 VMAs. She commented under a post that explaining why she did that, ““I heard a loud noise and it scared me.”
I won’t be a meme again, the star declared on her Instagram Story following the ceremony. I’d instead remain motionless than suffer for being who I am. Lots of love.
“Who cares lol,” she wrote under another Instagram post that showed Gomez’s ostensibly annoyed response to Chris Brown’s nomination being announced during the awards broadcast.
The actor who is up for an Emmy also had a fantastic night. She shared the Best Afrobeats VMA with Nigerian rapper and singer Rema for their work on the song “Calm Down.” Additionally, the pair received nominations for Best Collaboration and Song of the Year.
