Mohan Lal in Lucifer and L2 Empuraan are not same: Prithviraj Sukumaran

Prithviraj Sukumaran, a popular Malayalam superstar, is making waves with his third directorial venture, “L2: Empuraan,” starring the legendary actor Mohanlal in the lead role. This film, touted as the most expensive Malayalam production ever, boasts shooting locations in the US and the UK, adding to its grandeur and anticipation among fans.

As a sequel to the 2019 hit film “Lucifer,” “Empuraan” promises to surprise audiences with its unique storyline and characters. Prithviraj Sukumaran, the director, encourages fans to expect something entirely different from its predecessor. While “Lucifer” featured Mohanlal’s character, Stephen Nedumpally, engaging in mass action sequences, Prithviraj assures that “Empuraan” will offer a fresh perspective, with more focus on Mohanlal’s character, Khureshi Ab’ram.

Scripted by Murali Gopy, the film brings back familiar faces from “Lucifer,” including Prithviraj’s Zayed Masood, along with Tovino Thomas, Manju Warrier, and Indrajith Sukumaran. Despite leaked sequences from the shoot in Ladakh, Atlanta, and New York, the director emphasizes that there’s much more to Mohanlal’s character in “Empuraan.”

L2 Empuraan won’t have Mohanlal in Mundu

Addressing expectations, Prithviraj hints at deviating from the conventional formula of Malayalam cinema, where the hero beats up villains in a factory setting. He suggests a departure from such ‘mass’ action scenes, setting “Empuraan” apart from typical genre conventions. Additionally, Prithviraj teases fans with the possibility of incorporating a Bollywood-style end title song, adding an element of surprise and entertainment to the film.

Interestingly, the end title song of “Lucifer” titled “Empuraan,” sung by Usha Uthup, not only hinted at the sequel’s name but also delved into Khureshi Ab’ram’s backstory. “Empuraan” aims to delve deeper into this narrative, offering audiences a richer understanding of the character’s past and motivations.

Despite completing only 20% of the film, the team is gearing up for the next phase of production, with plans to shoot the remaining portions in India. A month-long schedule in Chennai featuring the principal cast is set to commence soon. With a targeted release year of 2025, “Empuraan” promises to be a cinematic spectacle, blending elements of action, drama, and suspense to captivate audiences.

In summary, “L2: Empuraan” stands out as a highly anticipated sequel in Malayalam cinema, promising fans a fresh and exhilarating cinematic experience. With a stellar cast, a captivating storyline, and ambitious production values, the film is poised to leave a lasting impression on audiences when it hits theaters in 2025.
