Kamal Haasan Requests Ilaiyaraja Biopic Director To Change THIS About Film

In a much-anticipated announcement, it’s been confirmed that Tamil star Dhanush will be portraying the legendary Isaignani Ilaiyaraaja in his upcoming biopic. Touted as one of the largest pan-Indian biopics to hit the screens, the film’s makers held a press conference on March 20 to unveil the first poster of “Illaiyaraaja”.

The introductory poster was launched by none other than the iconic actor Kamal Haasan, creating a buzz within the industry. Featuring Dhanush in a retro look, the poster has captured widespread attention.

Addressing the gathering, Kamal Haasan shared his sentiments, expressing his journey from addressing Ilaiyaraaja as ‘Sir’ to ‘ayya’ and ‘anna’. He urged the director not to succumb to external pressures but to authentically portray Ilaiyaraaja’s life, drawing from personal experiences and extensive research. He emphasized the importance of showcasing Ilaiyaraaja’s contributions to music, ensuring the biopic reaches audiences across various languages and regions.

Director Vetrimaaran reflected on his personal connection with Ilaiyaraaja’s music, describing it as a constant source of comfort akin to motherly love. He praised Ilaiyaraaja for his collaborative spirit and flexibility in adapting to filmmakers’ visions, making the creative process seamless.

Lead actor Dhanush expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to portray a musical legend like Ilaiyaraaja. He revealed his deep admiration for the maestro’s work, stating that he had spent countless nights contemplating how to do justice to his character. Dhanush admitted that Ilaiyaraaja’s music has not only been his companion but also his mentor in acting. He shared his excitement at the prospect of bringing Ilaiyaraaja’s story to life on the big screen.

Renowned filmmakers including Bharathiraja and Thiagarajan Kumararaja also shared their insights during the event, underscoring the significance of honoring Ilaiyaraaja’s legacy.

“Illaiyaraaja” is backed by Connekkt Media, P.K. Prime Production, and Mercuri Movies. The film will feature cinematography by Nirav Shah and production design by Muthuraj. Set to release in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi, it promises to be a cinematic celebration of the musical genius, Ilaiyaraaja.
