Marking Bhansali’s OTT debut, the series will follow the stories of love and betrayal experienced by courtesans living in Lahore’s oldest red-light district, Heeramandi. Set against the backdrop of British-ruled India, the novel explores how the women at Heeramandi found themselves entangled in a constant power struggle with anti-colonial movements on the rise.

Bhansali highlighted the grandeur of the upcoming project. He said, “I’ve made big films. I enjoy making those big-scale films, and it comes naturally to me. But while shifting to digital, I’ve taken it up a notch. ‘Heeramandi’ is my biggest project. I wanted to make it special and surprised myself with this one.”
