Zoya Akhtar says many actresses don’t want to do women-led films

One of the prominent filmmakers and producers in Bollywood, Zoya Akhtar has always raised important issues in our society depicting them through her narrations. During her recent conversations ahead of her film The Archies, the director opened up about the films and making.

In Bollywood, the gender disparity issue has been a subject of scrutiny and has always been a debate regarding the issue. Zoya Akhtar shared her opinion based on her experience stating that ‘a lot of actresses don’t want to carry the burden of leading films and the first question they’ll ask is Who is the guy in the film?’

Zoya feels that the female actors themselves are apprehensive and most of the time are not interested in themselves but rather in being in a big hero-led film rather than carrying their own film. The director thinks there still exists a notable imbalance in the number of films with male leads comparatively with female leads.

Zoya Akhtar’s upcoming film The Archies introduces seven newcomers- Agastya Nanda, Suhana Khan, Kushi Kapoor, Mihir Raina, Vedang Ahuja, Aditi Dot Saigal, Yuvraj Menda. Based on the American comic book series produced under her banner Tiger Baby Productions.
