Violence is the new Romance! Read on for specifics

In the cinema’s earliest days, Violence is seen in the 1903 short film The Great Train Robbery. It was also one of the first motion pictures made that displayed a form of Violence. The Violence seen here is simply the robbery itself. The rise of action films in India is unbelievable.  Now, Violence is the new Romance, and no one can deny it.

Hollywood violence influenced the Indian Film Industry as now most Indian films are embedded with  Violence and male masculinity, and the audience is accepting it like fine wine. 21st-century cinema is dominated by action and Violence. I think it will stay for at least another 20- 30 years.

From Hollywood to Mollywood, the action and violence genre dominates, especially in the Indian Film industry, violence is a must for a box office run. The Pan India films like Gaddar 2, Jawan, Pathaan, Tiger 3, War, RRR, KGF franchise Pushpa, Shandha, King of Kotha, Leo, Jailer, Valimai, Singham franchise films, Vikram Vedha, Kaithi, Baaghi franchise films, Saaho, Kaduva, Mahaan, Kanuur Squad and Vikram, are glorifying too much Violence. In recent times, almost every South film has glorified Violence and bloodshed.

That is too much Hollywood influence. While Violence has always been used to show the hero’s bravado and masculinity on screen, films these days often have graphic scenes of hands chopped by sickles, cheek muscles moving in slow motion as someone is punched, teeth flying in the air along with bloody spitting and so on and is absolutely nonsense. But filmmakers have no other options than Indian audiences loving violent films. Well, that is too much of male masculinity, as males dominate filmmaking. The lack of women in filmmaking is the main reason for the increase in violent films.

The influence of Hollywood on Indian Cinema is undeniable. Hollywood cinema has played a significant role in shaping Indian Cinema. The connection between the two film industries is a testament to the power of cinema in bringing people together. The hyper-masculinity will have a drastic impact on the audience. The graphic scenes – hands chopped by sickles, cheek muscles moving in slow motion as someone is punched, teeth flying in the air along with blood are so annoying, but audiences enjoy these kinds of scenes. How action dominates the story is absolutely triggering and a warning to the filmmakers about the quality of cinema. The lack of sensible cinema is felt a lot these days.

Hollywood ace director Martin Scorsese recently discussed the issue in a prominent event. He said that action and Violence dominate the story and quality of cinema. The amount of Violence these films are embedded with is quite alarming, and all the filmmakers need to focus on the rising action genre as it is depleting the art of cinema.
