Vijay Deverakonda on Liger
It’s unfortunate that “Liger” didn’t meet expectations, but it’s great to hear that Vijay Deverakonda is returning with the upcoming romantic film “Kushi.” Every experience contributes to growth, and Vijay’s dedication is commendable. Let’s hope his next project brings the success he deserves.
During a recent interview, Vijay Deverakonda openly discussed his perspective on the box office disappointment of “Liger.” The actor candidly admitted that he never anticipated “Liger” would face such a fate, and he referred to himself as a ‘stupid idiot’ for this miscalculation.
He expressed, “One aspect that deeply bothered me about ‘Liger’ is that I failed to foresee its outcome. The film’s underperformance didn’t affect me significantly, but I found myself questioning how I could have been so blind. I, as Vijay Deverakonda, am known to turn my words into reality. I confidently proclaimed that it would be a hit. Consequently, I berated myself, wondering how I failed to perceive the obvious, like a foolish imbecile.”
In response to his own misjudgment, the actor has imposed a form of self-discipline. He elaborated, “This realization took some time to sink in, but I’ve decided that for my next three films, I will restrain myself from making bold statements and instead allow my work to communicate on my behalf. This is a self-imposed punishment, driven by my own sense of embarrassment.”
“Liger,” which saw its release in August of this year, faced a lacklustre performance at the box office, coupled with unfavourable reviews. Serving as the actor’s Bollywood debut, the film was purportedly crafted on an extravagant budget of 100 crore rupees.
The audience response towards “Liger” was far from favourable, as criticisms were directed at its outdated screenplay, problematic content, lacklustre execution, and notably subpar performances from the lead duo, Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday. Notable figures such as American boxing legend Mike Tyson, Ramya Krishnan, Ronit Roy, and others also made appearances in the film.
