Tollywood Film Industry
In the last couple of years, the world has acknowledged full potential of Tollywood film industry, and it is derisive. Technical crafts of the Telugu cinema, especially visual effects and cinematography, are considered as one of the most advanced in Indian cinema. The industry has produced some of India’s most expensive and highest-grossing films of all time, like the Bahubali franchise and RRR, Pushpa franchise.
Telugu cinema has pioneered the Pan India movement, cutting across the ethnic and linguistic barriers. S.S. Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2 won the Saturn Award for the best International film.
S.S. Rajamouli’s RRR won multiple international awards like Best, Best International Film, Action Film, Best Stunts Film and Best Original Song at the Hollywood Critics Association, including an academy award for Best Original Song award at the 95th Academy Awards with multiple nominations. RRR also won a Golden Globe for Best Original Song and numerous other international awards.
It received universal acclaim from Indian and Western critics like James Cameron, Steven Spielberg, and James Gunn, who praised its screenwriting, direction, action sequences and filmmaking. The film was considered one of the best films of the year by the National Board of Review (New York), making it only the second non-English film ever to make it to the list. At the 69th National Film Awards, the film won 6 awards, including Best Popular Film and Best Music Direction, Best Male Playback Singer, Best Choreography, Best Stunt Choreography and Best Special Effects.
Allu Arjun’s Pushpa: The Rise was released in North India without any hype, but the film was well-received and became a phenomenon in North India. This is the most trended film of the year of its release. At the 69th National Film Award, the film won 2 awards: Best Actor for Allu Arjun and Best Music award for Devi Sri Prasad. Telugu cinema domination at the National Award is quite commendable.
