The Idol Earns Dubious Honor as HBO’s Lowest-Rated Series in History

Sam Levinson and The Weeknd’s The Idol is creating  quite a stir at the 76th Cannes film festival. The show premiered at the festival yesterday and sparked an internet frenzy. Some came out to support the show, while others stand as strong critics to the elements shown. Nudity, drugs, toxicity, fame, and revolting 18+ scenes dominate the show, according to the reports.

Starring Lily-Rose Depp, The Weeknd, Troye Sivan, and Jennie Kim in pivotal roles, the show is reported to have received a five-minute standing ovation at the Festival. However, regardless of the initial approval, criticism for the show poured in. The show has been dubbed controversial for its intense female sexualization and nudity.

Now, on the popular review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, the show only received an average score of 10 through critics’ consensus. The ‘Tomatometer’ keeps declining as the rating which was earlier at 20% fell to 10%. It looks like it’s falling as the rating right now is just 2%. The show now stands as HBO’s worst-rated series.

‘The Idol’ will stream from June 4 on HBO in the US and on Sky Atlantic in the UK. Many are looking forward to watching the show to observe whether their opinions align with that of the critics or not.
