Siddharth Anand reacts to comparisons between Fighter and Tom Cruise’s Top Gun.

Siddharth Anand’s directorial action film Fighter is all set to release in theatres worldwide on January 25. The action director has now responded to the audience’s reaction to the film’s look so far.

Ever since the trailer release Fighter has been compared to the Hollywood film franchise Top Gun starring Tom Cruise. Now, in an interview with Zoom, Siddharth Anand has addressed the reactions and said that it ‘was inevitable’ while also adding that the audience needs to treat Indian films with more ‘respect.’

In a recent interview  Siddharth  reacted to the ongoing comparison of Fighter with Tom Hanks Tom Gun Maverik, he said, “I think it is inevitable.” As a filmmaker, you must be prepared that if you make a film about planes, it will be referred to as Top Gun because it lacks a reference point, leading them to believe that we are not creative and will do things that are rip-offs. We need to start treating our films with more respect and stop believing that everything is being ripped off. People in the West are inspired by content created in the East.”

Siddharth further said “I recently worked on sequences that were similar to a popular Western franchise film. I’m not saying they copied us. There’s no way they’d copy us, so be honest. There are only so many things you can do in action, and they will overlap. You simply need to add an X factor to make it stand out. Top Gun comparisons will be beaten to dust in the first 5 minutes.”

Fighter is produced by Siddharth Anand, Mamta Anand, Jyoti Deshpande, Ajit Andhare, Anku Pande, and Ramon Chibb with an estimated budget of Rs 250 crores and is scheduled to hit the theaters on 25th January.
