Tollywood actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu recently acted in the latest mythological drama Shaakuntalam directed by Gunasekhar. The movie team promoted this film in most of the states relentlessly. They even used Samantha’s sympathy card, which she used in the promotions of her last movie Yashoda.
Whatever the star cast or how aggressive the promotions can be, the audience won’t accept the movie if the narration and cast won’t suit the film’s characters. The same happened with this movie. Many think that Samantha simply didn’t fit the role.
Coming to the collections the movie failed miserably at the box office. Shaakuntalam was made under a budget of 65 crores, and produced by Gunasekhar and Dil Raju combined. The digital rights of this film are said to be sold for 35 crores and the movie collected approximately 5 crores at the box office.
Even though the movie cannot make profits the producers are trying to get back the invested amount. Accordingly when a few satellite channels approached Dil Raju for Shaakuntalm’s satellite rights Dil Raju quoted 20 crores which those channels thought too much for a disaster movie and stepped back. If this continues the movie will make a loss of 20 crores.
