Satyajit Ray’s filmography has piqued the interest of Hollywood directors

Ray started his career with the 1955 film Pather Panchali and won eleven international prizes, including the best human document award at the Cannes film festival. He is widely considered one of the greatest filmmakers of all time.

He did the scripting, casting, editing, and scoring and designed his own credit titles and publicity for all his films, like Aparjito, Apur Sansar, The Music Room, The Big City, and Charulatha. Ray became the first Indian to receive an Honorary Academy Award in 1992. He also received 36 Indian national film awards. His contribution to the Indian Film Industry is commendable and will always be remembered in the history of mankind.

1. Christopher Nolan:

After watching Ray’s Pather Panchali, Nolan was keen on learning more about Indian Cinema. He said that it was one of the best films ever made. Nolan’s directorial debut, Oppenheimer, is set to release in theatres on July 21.

2. Martin Scorcese :

The Shutter Island director said that he was totally in awe of Kalpana. He said that it is one of the genuine dance films. Martin’s Killer of the Flower Moon was released and received praise from the critics.

3. Wes Anderson:

The Darjeeling Limited director said in an interview that Satyajit Ray’s films were part of what drew him to India. He also said that Ray was one of the ideal role models for the kind of director he would like to be. The Darjeeling Limited also had soundtracks composed by Ray. Anderson’s Asteroid City was released on June 16 in the United States and received critical acclaim from the audience.

4. Akira Kurosawa:

The legendary Japanese director Akira Kurosawa said about Ray, The quiet but deep understanding and love of the human race have impressed me greatly… I feel that he is a giant in the movie industry.

5. Francis Ford Coppala

The Godfather director remembers how Ray praised him for his films and how he remembers India because of Ray’s work. He said that Devi is his favourite Ray film.
