OMG 2 director Amit Rai says film script was rejected by Karan Johar and many others

OMG 2

OMG 2 is smashing box office records, no doubt about it. The new film starring Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi, and Yami Gautam has garnered audience acclaim, with viewers even requesting a U/A certification. Serving as a spiritual sequel to the 2012 hit “OMG,” this movie is helmed by director Amit Rai and delves into the important topic of sex education. While the film is raking in both revenue and affection from its audience, the director of this Akshay Kumar starrer has dropped some startling revelations about it.

During an interview with an online entertainment news portal, director Amit Rai of OMG 2 expresses his disappointment that the intended target audience for the new movie is unable to watch it due to certain restrictions. He acknowledges the importance of adhering to the laws of the country. Rai explains that while he can express disagreement, he cannot incite rebellion, as his focus is on making films rather than sparking revolutions. The director recounts his experience of being out of work for a decade after “Road to Sangam,” due to which he then created another film, but faced objections about its content. Amit Rai goes on to reveal that prominent producers had actually rejected the script of OMG 2.

Rai reveals that well-known names like Karan Johar and Ashutosh Gowariker had turned down the script. He questions if they understand the challenges he faced after those rejections. Fortunately, it was Akshay Kumar who came forward to support him. The actor from “Sooryavanshi” exhibited courage by endorsing the new film. The director of OMG 2 recounts that Akshay showed enthusiasm for the script and believed in the film’s significance.

Rai’s introduction to Akshay was facilitated by Ashwin Varde, Vipul D Shah, and Rajesh Bahl. The director emphasizes that without Akshay’s support, the script would have remained neglected. However, even after investing around Rs 50 crores and securing an actor, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) ultimately declined approval to showcase the movie.

OMG 2 received an ‘A’ rating and had to make specific alterations as per the revising committee’s recommendations before it was granted clearance. The ‘A’ certification potentially could have impacted the film’s commercial success, wouldn’t you agree? However, despite this, OMG 2 has managed to amass around Rs 73.67 crores at the box office. It’s expected to join the Rs 100 crore club by the end of this week. Meanwhile, Akshay Kumar expressed gratitude to his fans for embracing both “Gadar 2” and “OMG 2” in recent times.
