Blackplink is a South Korean girl group formed by YG Entertainment, consisting of members Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa. The group debuted in August 2016 with their single album Square One, which featured “Whistle” and “Boombayah”, their first number-one entries on South Korea’s Gaon Digital Chart and the US Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart.
The group doesn’t have a leader, unlike other K-pop groups. There were rumors that Jennie is the leader of BLACKPINK. The group went on a famous South Korean variety show called the Knowing Brothers to promote their album BLACKPINK THE ALBUM.
When asked by the host, maknae Lisa revealed that the group does not have a leader and that each member plays an important role to maintain the harmony of the group. She said that everyone in the group is good at something so everyone takes responsibility for different things. Lisa takes initiative when it comes to choreography or performance. Jisoo being the eldest member of the group makes decisions in difficult circumstances. Rosé handles all the small and important details.
When Lisa explained that Jennie is the one member who takes up all the requests and issues to YG Entertainment it made the K-pop stans believe that she was the leader. But Lisa had revealed that the group works without a leader.
