Kabir Bedi, a veteran actor, is one of those actors in the industry who has worked in the highest no. of films in India and foreign waters. Hours ago, Kabir Bedi received the highest merit award from the Italian government. The Merito della Repubblica Italiana, an award often presented to the civilians of Italy, is awarded to the actor for his performance over the past 30 years in the industry at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel.
The actor hopes to witness only good work from the Indian and Italian film industries combined. The actor received the Award from Italian President Mattarealla. He was clicked with his family, wife Parveen Dusanj, daughter Pooja Bedi, and granddaughter Alaya F as he was presented with the award.
Kiran Bedi received the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic or The Merito della Repubblica Italiana on Sunday 10th December 2023.
The actor expressed joy as he appraised the masses by sharing a heartfelt note via Instagram, “AWARDED one of Italy’s highest decorations, The Order of Merit! At a private ceremony overlooking the Gateway of India in Mumbai, I was awarded the “Order of Merit of the Italian Republic” (Merito della Repubblica Italiana), the most prestigious Italian civilian award. It was a very emotional award for me. Being presented the Order of Merit, Italy’s highest honour, is the fulfillment of my life’s work in Italy. It’s even higher than Cavaliere (Knight), which they made me twelve years ago. This double honour was a goose-bumps moment for me.
My journey of becoming Sandokan began one hundred meters from where we were standing, at the iconic Taj Mahal Palace Hotel. That’s where I had met the director and Producer of the “Sandokan” series for the very first time. Life has come full circle.
The Scroll of Honour was signed by President Mattarella and counter-signed by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and read aloud by Consul General Alessandro de Masi, who added:
“Kabir keeps on playing, decade after decade, an extraordinary role in promoting better relations between India and Italy. His popularity is widespread across all generations in Italy. This is the reason why the President of the Republic of Italy has decided to present him one of Italy’s highest decorations, The Order of Merit. Kabir is very special for all of us Italians.”
The Ambassador of Italy, Vicenzo De Luca messaged: “Kabir is not only a great promoter and a profound admirer of Italy, in India and around the several countries where he is known. Kabir is a sincere friend of Italy, strongly bonded to it. This award, the most prestigious Italian honorific one, ultimately recognizes his unconditional feeling and passionate dedication to Italy.”
