Hey, Ram is a 2000 Indian period crime drama film written, directed, and produced by Kamal Haasan, It was simultaneously made in Tamil and Hindi languages.
The film’s soundtrack and score were composed by Ilaiyaraaja. It is an alternate history film that depicts India’s Partition and the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi by Nathuram Godse. The Hindi version was distributed by Khan’s Dreamz Unlimited.
Shah Rukh Khan played the role of Amjad Ali Khan in Hey Ram. The role required an actor of his gravitas. Thus, when he was approached for it, he accepted it without demanding any money. The film’s lead actor, director, writer, and producer, Kamal Hasaan himself revealed this.
Kamal Haasan revealed that he has a special respect for Shah Rukh Khan as he did Hey Ram without demanding any remuneration. The actor said, “Special respect for Shah Rukh Saab. When the budget of Hey Ram went over he didn’t even take the money. And now he has got rights to the film & I am very happy for him because he deserves it.”
