Demi Lovato was in a walking coma

Demi Lovato is being open about her difficulties following her almost-deadly drug overdose in 2018. Years after the terrifying experience, the “Skyscraper” singer mused on being “California sober,” a term used to characterise someone who consumes cannabis but refrains from using other narcotics.

Although Lovato claimed that she was “smoking weed and drinking in moderation” as part of her recovery path in her 2021 docuseries Demi Lovato: Dancing With the Devil, which tackled her prior heroin addiction and overdose, the 31-year-old now realises that it wasn’t precisely the best-laid plan.

She admitted during her interview on The Howard Stern Show on September 11 that she had to “learn it on my own” and that she ended up “smoking so much weed and taking edibles, sometimes 300mg at a time” in its place. All I did was switch out my addiction for something I believed to be safer.

Lovato recalls going through a “deep depression” and experiencing “profound sadness” at the time, adding that she was also dealing with weight gain.
