Asha Bhosle 90th b’day: celebrations to happen in Dubai’

Asha Bhosle

“I am the final Mughal of the film realm,” says Asha Bhosle, the iconic playback singer, as she approaches her 90th birthday on September 8. Bursting with enthusiasm, she reveals plans for a Broadway-style production named “Asha@90,” scheduled to take place in Dubai on her special day.
“At the tender age of 10, I embarked on my singing journey in 1943. Throughout the years, I have collaborated with the industry’s finest and developed profound connections with them. My current stature results from my illustrious 80-year career as an artist” asserts the singer, renowned for her captivating stage presence. Unstoppable and undeterred, she shares her thoughts during a press briefing at a suburban hotel: “People express astonishment at my impending 90th birthday. However, I perceive my age differently. I firmly embrace the concept of destiny, or ‘naseeb.'”
The anticipated musical show, featuring an impressive ensemble of nearly 55 performers, including 23 skilled dancers, will not only guide the audience through her illustrious journey but also delight them with a selection of her finest compositions. Contrary to those who view her headlining a significant stage show on her 90th birthday as “unconventional,” the legendary artist clarifies. “I’m not engaged in anything exceptional. I continue to perform. Just a month ago, I presented a show in Pune,” she reveals.
This forthcoming performance signifies her return to Dubai after more than a decade. “Should the response be favourable, we might consider extending it to destinations like America or London,” she hints. The show promises carefully curated retrospectives, encompassing a diverse array of timeless Bollywood hits, soulful ghazals, and musical renditions by Bhosle.
In honour of her comeback to the stage, numerous admirers and junior associates graced the press gathering. When questioned about his preferred Asha song, actor Jackie Shroff playfully opted not to mention “Rangeela” (1995) due to his involvement. Almost as if prompted, Bhosle began to hum the iconic tune “Yaai re yaai re mil ke dhoom machaaye re…” from “Rangeela.” In a synchronistic manner, fellow attendees at the podium commenced tapping along on the table, harmonizing with the rhythm.
