Madhur Bhandarkar reveals: “Bollywood ignored Sushant…’Boycott Bollywood’ is just a Phase”

Madhur Bhandarkar is an Indian film director, scriptwriter, and producer. After trying his skills with small-time filmmakers as an assistant, Bhandarkar became an assistant to Ram Gopal Varma. He even played his first cameo in his 1995 film Rangeela where he was the associate director to Ram Gopal Varma.

A couple of years later he made his directorial debut with Trishakti which was ignored at the box office. He didn’t give up and after two years he directed Chandini Bar with a budget of 15 million, it was a commercial success that marked his entry into the top list of filmmakers.

Talking about the ‘Boycott Bollywood’ trend, the director said, ‘It is just a phrase.’ The filmmaker went on to say that if the content of the film is strong then, nothing can stop the audience from watching it.

He further added that anger towards industry increased after the untimely demise of Sushant Singh Rajput. He said, “I have noticed that this (boycott) happened largely after the passing of Sushant Singh Rajput. Maybe the industry ignored him… He was from a non-film background and he came and he struggled… It was a very unfortunate, untimely demise and from there, the anger amid the public got aggravated. It is the public’s opinion.”

Madhur’s film ‘Indu Sarkar’ also faced severe political opposition in 2017 and reportedly nobody from Bollywood supported him.
