77th Cannes Film Festival : The Cannes Film Festival returns from May 14 to 25, bringing a host of film stars and celebrated filmmakers to France’s Cote d’Azur.

Thierry Fremaux, Cannes’ creative director, unveiled the selections at a press conference in Paris alongside festival president Iris Knobloch, stating that this year’s lineup was chosen from 2,000 submissions.

According to Frémaux, some entries will become more poignant as a result of current events. The first selection he unveiled Thursday was Yolande Zauberman’s documentary “The Beauty of Gaza,” which follows transgender Palestinians who travel to Tel Aviv. Sergei Loznitsa, a Ukrainian filmmaker, will present his documentary “The Invasion,” about Russia’s war on his own nation.

This year, the festival will introduce a competitive immersive segment presenting works in virtual and augmented reality.
