Greta Gerwig’s Barbie 2

Even if Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie were left out of the big Oscar nominees, the audience’s inexplicable affection for the pink-tastic live-action Barbieland speaks for itself.

Amidst the Oscar snub , Warner Bros chief confirmed Greta Gerwig’s Barbie 2 in a recent converstion. Letterboxd unveiled its list of the “Most Obsessively Rewatched Best Picture Nominees of the 21st Century” on March 9, a day before the 2024 Academy Awards. Two of these Top 10 blockbusters, Oppenheimer by Christopher Nolan and Barbie starring Greta Gerwig, were nominated for Best Picture at this year’s award.

The inclusion of three Greta Gerwig films on this list—Little Women, Barbie, and Lady Bird—pleased moviegoers. Prior to the social media platform disclosing the public’s decision on the issue, Pam Abdy, the chief of Warner Bros., made a touching admission to the BBC that will make all Barbie lovers happy.

A follow-up to the phenomenal box office success of last year is highly anticipated by the American film company. She gave the impression that Greta Gerwig and Warner Bros. were “always talking” about building on their previous achievements. Abdy added in the same interview that they had “of course” been devastated when Robbie and Gerwig were excluded from the Academy Awards’ Best Lead Actress and Best Director categories, respectively.
