Twinkle Khanna shares a coloumn about same gender marriages, Read to Know more

India has been through massive evolution in the past few years but same-gender marriage is still not applicable in the country. Supreme Court declined the proposal for same-sex marriages in India in October 2023.

Hours ago producer and filmmaker Twinkle Khanna took to Instagram to express her views on same-gender marriages and Indian stereotypes or traditions. Twinkle shares a part of her column she wrote for a news portal. The actress shares that Indians are allowed to marry dogs, trees, and many many more living creatures in the name of rituals and traditions, but are declined the right to marry a person who belongs to the same gender. Homosexuals are denied the right to consider marrying people who share the same sexual orientation.

“Well, we live in a country where it seems acceptable to marry a tree or even a dog, but not a person of the same gender. I still remember the time when a neighborhood aunty informed me that a girl in our building was a Manglik, and her father was making her marry a Pomeranian. When I refused to believe her, she said, ‘Accha, bring your iPad.’ She then showed me a news item stating that in Jharkhand, a young girl had married a stray dog called Sheru. Sweety Aunty explained, ‘So that her horoscope ka bad luck goes to the dog and when she finally marries a man, then he will have a long life.’ While we wait for the day when legislators stop barking up the wrong tree and legalise same-sex marriages, I suppose Deepika’s idea of making an informed choice may save a lot of women from marrying dogs, and more commonly, frogs in princely robes.’ Agree? Disagree?” Articulated Twinkle Khanna asking the masses if they agree or disagree with her opinion.
