Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki Records Massive Viewership Numbers: Scores Big on Netflix

Rajkumar Hirani’s Indian comedy-drama “Dunki” has made its Netflix debut less than two months after its theatrical release, marking another success for Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan. The film, directed by Hirani, adds to Khan’s impressive streak of blockbusters in 2023, following “Jawan” and “Pathaan.”

Despite its theatrical run concluding with over $55 million worldwide, positioning it as the sixth-biggest Hindi-language film of 2023 and the eighth-biggest Indian film overall for the year, the numbers for “Dunki” are considered somewhat ordinary and disappointing compared to its predecessors.

On Netflix, “Dunki” garnered significant attention, with 4.9 million views in its first week (spanning four days) and 4.2 million views in the second week, maintaining a strong viewership trend. Over the course of 11 days, the film accumulated 9.1 million views, amounting to 24.1 million streaming hours. Impressively, it outperformed “Jawan” on the platform, which amassed 8.9 million viewers over 11 days with 25.5 million hours viewed.

The film’s Netflix release on February 15th propelled it to global trends among non-English films, currently holding the top spot in India. While its performance on OTT platforms has been decent, many viewers have expressed mixed sentiments, feeling that “Dunki” falls short of the high expectations associated with a Rajkumar Hirani-directed film. Despite this, its strong presence on Netflix suggests continued interest and engagement from audiences worldwide.
