Women’s Day Special: How Sekhar Kammula redefined Women

It’s Women’s day today, and movies play a significant role in shaping audiences’ minds and sometimes influence them in a big way. There are only a few directors in the movie industry who can elevate a woman’s image and portray how strong there is on the big screen.

Sekhar Kammula is known for making sensible films and producing stories with strong emotions. Women always are ahead in his films, and they always do something or the other and carry themselves with pride, and are independent.

Anand and Godavari

For instance, Rupa from the film Anand portrays a strong woman of the generation, who takes no nonsense and carries her life all by herself. She is strong-headed and has clarity of thought. And when it comes to the Godavari, the character Seetha is so strong that she tries to be independent by establishing her own business and does not compromise on anything that comes her way.

Fidaa and Love Story

If we see Bhanumathi from the film Fidaa or Mounika from the film Love Story, the two characters are poles apart, but one thing common between the two is that they want to get ahead in life. Mounika enjoys a lot of wealth back at home but wants to be independent and work independently. Bhanumathi demands respect and displays clarity of thought.

Some other filmmakers bring a lot of sense to the women characters they write, but of all, Sekhar Kammula‘s films will remain special in Telugu Cinema.
