January 11 in Kollywood witnessed the box office’s biggest clash between Ajith Kumar and Thalapathy Vijay. Vijay Varisu was neck to neck with Ajith’s Thunivu. However, the latter however managed to get bigger screens due to the hold of distributor, Red Giant Film in Tamil Nadu.
Meanwhile, the Varisu movie is produced by Dil Raju and is being appreciated by the family audience for providing wholesome entertainment. Given the festive season, it is set to emerge as another clean hit for Thalapathy Vijay.
Now, the interesting question is who won the first day’s race. Interestingly, Varisu edged out Thala Ajith’s action film Thunivu. Directed by Vamshi Paidipally, early estimates suggest that Varisu grossed Rs 26.5 crore on day one of release, across India, while Thunivu grossed Rs 26 crore. Though it’s a small difference, Vijay won the race.
Thunivu has Ajith Kumar playing a slightly negative character, and he impressed the fans with it. Manju Warrier, the Malayalam cinema star, essays the female lead, while Samuthirakani, John Kokken, Veeran, Ajay, and GM Sundar appear in crucial roles. Ghibran scored music for Ajith for the first time in Thunivu, while the cinematography is handled by Nirav Shah.
