‘The Flash’ Director Says Ezra Miller Won’t be Replaced

If Andy Muschietti is involved in The Flash’s sequel, Ezra Miller will be back to play the titular role. During an interview on “The Discourse” podcast, the director opened up about Ezra Miller and whether he will be replaced as the Scarlet Speedster.

The director shared that the actor will reprise the role, regardless of his legal and mental history. “If [a sequel] happens, yes,” Muschietti said about having Miller back as the Flash. “I don’t think there’s anyone that can play that character as well as they did. The other depictions of the character are great, but this particular vision of the character, they just excelled in doing it. And, as you said, the two Barrys — it feels like a character that was made for them.”

Miller has been involved in several scandals. Earlier this year the actor was caught in a burglary case in Vermont in which they pleaded guilty. In 2020, a video of the actor choking a woman outside of a bar in Iceland went viral. No charges were filed for this.  The actor was also arrested twice in Hawaii in 2022, once for disorderly conduct and harassment. Last year, Miller agreed to a mental health treatment.

Weighing in on the topic, the director’s sister and the movie’s producer Barbara Muschietti added, “In principal photography, Ezra was brilliant and the most committed and the most professional [actor]. Ezra gave everything for this role — physically, creatively, and emotionally. They were absolutely supreme.”

The Flash is slated to hit the theatres on June 16, 2023. The movie also stars Ben Affleck, Sasha Calle, Micheal Keaton, Michael Shannon, and Nicholas Cage.
