Surprising Controversy Takes Place On ‘The Elephant Whispers’

The Elephant Whisperers

The tribal couple, Bomman and Belli, who played significant roles in the Oscar-winning documentary “The Elephant Whisperers,” have raised serious allegations against the filmmakers. During a recent interview, the couple claimed that they have not been compensated and have been neglected by the creators of the documentary since its historic Oscar victory earlier this year.

Following this, Bomman and Belli have taken a step further by sending a legal notice to the filmmaker, requesting a “goodwill gesture” compensation of Rs 2 crore (approximately $267,000). The legal notice asserts that they were assured a suitable house, a versatile all-terrain vehicle, and sufficient financial assistance, all of which were contingent on the income generated from the project.

Bomman and Belli assert that they were presented as “the true heroes” to notable figures, including celebrities, sports icons, and political leaders, which led to substantial publicity. However, they claim that the filmmaker received substantial financial gains, obtaining donations from the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and the Prime Minister of India, without duly compensating them for their contribution.

In an open and candid YouTube interview, Bomman and Belli revealed that they had utilized a substantial portion of their savings to fund a wedding scene that director Kartiki Gonsalves wanted to incorporate into the film. The couple alleged that Kartiki had given them assurance of reimbursement for the expenses, but the promised funds were not returned to them.

Furthermore, Bomman and Belli mentioned that following the documentary’s Oscar victory, their interactions with Kartiki underwent a significant shift, with her becoming unresponsive to their attempts at communication.

In response to these allegations, both the production company Sikhya Entertainment and director Kartiki Gonsalves have issued a statement refuting the accusations.

The film producers explained that their main goal was to make more people aware of taking care of elephants. They wanted to show appreciation for the Forest Department and people like Bomman and Belli who take care of elephants. They said that the documentary has had a good impact on the community, and they also mentioned that the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu helped the people who care for elephants.

However, even though the filmmakers said this, many people are talking about the claims made by Bomman and Belli. People are worried about how they were treated in the documentary. As things continue to happen, both the movie industry and the public will watch closely to make sure that everyone is treated fairly and things are made right for everyone.
