Studios refused to compromise with WGA

Writers Guild Of America

During its Friday meeting, the Writers Guild Of America(WGA) and Screen Writers Guild of America (SWGA) kept firm on proposals for minimum Tv staffing levels and minimum weeks of employment. Hollywood Studios like Apple, Warner Bros, Disney, Paramount, Netflix, Amazon, 20th Century Studios, Lionsgate, Starz, Universal Pictures, Sony Pictures, CBS Television, MGM, AMC Network, and MTV refused to comprise the WGA demands.

Both sides are expected to communicate again in the coming days. The ongoing WGA strike has affected the cancellation of many TV Shows and movies.

All these studios earn billions in tickets, patent rights and theatrical rights for the shows and movies, while writers earn the bare minimum. Why is it so hard for the studios to share the profit with the writers, who are creators of the shows and the movies? They are the ones who are responsible for creativity and hard work.

More than 11,000 film and television writers are seeking compensation, increased residuals from ott platforms like Netflix and Amazon, and restrictions regarding Artificial intelligence in filmmaking and television. Writers proposed the minimum staffing and the particulars shifting with minimum wages, and all the giant studios refused the writer’s demand. It is reported that both sides will again meet within days.
