Ram Gopal Varma supports The Kerala Story

It’s been over a week since Sudipto Sen’s divisive film The Kerala Story was released. The contentious video has sparked heated debate among the general public and on social media. While some contend that the film depicts events in Kerala accurately, others argue that its authors are spreading lies as part of a propaganda campaign against the state.

In the middle of all of this, famous filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma defended The Kerala Story while blasting Bollywood for their “death-like silence on the film’s shattering success.” According to RGV, the film will linger around Bollywood like a “mysterious fog in every story discussion room and corporate house.”

“We are so comfortable in telling lies to both others and ourselves that when someone goes ahead and shows the truth we get SHOCKED… That explains the DEATH like SILENCE of BOLLYWOOD on the SHATTERING SUCCESS of #KeralaStory,” the filmmaker said in the tweet.

“The #KeralaStory is like a BEAUTIFUL GHOSTLY MIRROR showing the DEAD face of Main stream BOLLYWOOD to itself in all its UGLINESS.” “The #KeralaStory will haunt like a mysterious fog in every story discussion room and every corporate house in BOLLYWOOD forever,” he pointed out, adding: “It’s difficult to learn from #KeralaStory because it’s EASY to copy a LIE but very DIFFICULT to copy TRUTH.”

The issue began after the film’s producers released a teaser stating that the film was based on the accounts of more than 32,000 Kerala women radicalised by Islamic fanatics. Meanwhile, in response to the outcry over the film’s factual mistakes, they changed the trailer, and the amended trailer description on YouTube stated that the film was based on the “true stories of three young girls from different parts of Kerala.”
