On Madhuri Dixit’s 56th birthday, here are 5 facts about this ‘Tamma tamma’ girl

Madhuri Dixit Nene, the superhit Bollywood actress known for not just her acting but also her dancing skills, has been cast in more than 70 films, the first one being Abodh in 1984. However, that did not land her the recognition she was chasing. 4 years later when Tezaab hit the screens, she set everybody’s souls on fire.

If that wasn’t enough jaw-dropping information for you, she was given Padma Shri by the government of India in 2008. She has done evergreen movies like Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, Ram Lakhan, Khalnayak, Saajan and Devdas.

Today on May 15th, Madhuri turns 56. On that occasion, here are 5 lesser-known facts about her that may hold your interest:

One: Madhuri is a trained Kathak dancer who was the only actress in her era to be choreographed by the epic Pandit Birju Maharaj, who calls her the best in Bollywood.

Two: Exemplary artist late MF Husain was so utterly mesmerized by her glory that he watched Madhur’s Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam 67 times! There were a handful of paintings that he made in awe of her.

Three: A Jamshedpuri fan appealed the government of India to make her birthday a National Holiday. He took the extra step and made a calendar which started it’s year with her birthday.

Four: Other than being a phenomenal Bollywood superstar, she remained close to compassion and humanity. At the forefront of countless humanitarian and animal welfare.  She was appointed the Goodwill Ambassador Advocate for Child and Equal Woman’s Rights in 2014.

Five: She has a star named after her in the Orion constellation. The certificate from the Star Foundation reads: “A celestial body in the sky above has been named in honour of Madhuri Dixit-Nene and is officially located in the constellation Orion.”
