Released on June 2nd, 2023, this brand-new Netflix series has more to its storyline than you can see at one glance. Before we jump into the cast and filmography, it’s essential to know the backstory of the plot aka, where it came from.
Jigna Vora worked as a crime reporter in Mumbai’s Asian Age her former age. Later, she was forced into a marriage that soon came to a full stop. In 2004, her life path changed when she decided to take up media as her career. As a court reporter in Free Press Journal (FPJ), it was a huge achievement for her first assignment to cover gangster Abu Salem’s case at the TADA court. Despite the shining success, her life had a twisted sense of humour. At the age of 37 in 2011, this deputy bureau chief of the Asian Age’s Mumbai bureau was two of the main suspects in the murder of another journalist J Dey. In November of the same year, the court pressed charges on Vora and sent her to prison for nine months. Finally, in 2018, she was cleared of all her allegations in 2018 in special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court due to lack of evidence.
Coming back to the series, it’s the audio-visual version of Jigna’s book Behind Bars in Byculla: My Days in Prison. Netflix gives the synopsis, “In this gripping drama series, a crime reporter faces a false accusation in the murder of another journalist.”
Karishma Tanna has played Jigna’s part in the series. For the unversed, Karishma Tanna is a famous Indian TV actress from Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. Other than that, she’s also appeared in reality shows like Fear Factor, Bigg Boss 8, Nach Baliye, Jhalak Dikhla Jaa, and, Ekta Kapoor’s famous Naagin 3. Most importantly, she’s a face we remember from Sanjay Dutt’s biopic Sanju. After those fiery projects, Karishma is now back to show her Karishma in this nerve-wracking true story.
