When Tamil, Telugu and Kannada films are struggling in theatres, the Malayalam film industry enjoys a historic run at the box office with back-to-back hits in the first quarter of 2024. Mollywood’s “Premalu” created a sensation at the box office; the film recently joined the 100 crores club.

The film has now captivated Telugu audiences with its charm and wit. Brought to the Telugu states by SS Karthikeya, son of the maverick director SS Rajamouli, the film has replicated its massive success. Days after Telugu actor Naga Chaitanya took to social media with words of praise for the Telugu dubbed version of the film, superstar Mahesh Babu has joined in.
Mahesh wrote on social media that he’d watched Premalu with his entire family, and everyone loved it. “Can’t remember the last time when I laughed so much while watching a film,” tweeted Mahesh, adding that the acting by all the youngsters in the film was top-class.
SS Rajamouli about Premalu
Meanwhile, SS Rajamouli hailed the Malayalam film industry and wished everyone who made the film a happy day. “With a lot of jealousy and pain, I admit that the Malayalam industry produces better actors in Indian cinema,” he remarked. This comment won a thunderous applause at the event.
Rajamouli also spoke at length about what he loved in the film. “I am not a fan of comedy and romantic dramas, and went to watch the film reluctantly. But the way comedy, drama, and emotions were executed was superb in Premalu,” said the RRR director.
Rajamouli further said that he was unhappy when his son bought the rights to Premalu as he had no idea about the Malayalam movie starring Naslen and Mamitha Baiju. “But the moment I watched the film, I was blown away. I loved the film and admired the performances. Mamitha Baiju can become the next heartthrob like Sai Pallavi,” he added.
Premalu is already in the safe zone, and with Gaami and Bhimaa slowing down, the ‘A’ centre audience prefers to watch this film. With the weekend setting in the next few days, Premalu’s occupancy will increase.
