Reports suggest that Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix will sing in at least 15 songs for the movie, including classics like That’s Entertainment from Judy Garland’s iconic musical The Band Wagon. Lady Gaga will also write and perform two original songs, which could be nominated for awards.
Hildur Guonadottir, who won an Oscar and a Grammy, will compose the music for the movie. While specific details about the songwriters and performers for the tracks remain a mystery, sources suggest that Hildur, the Oscar and Grammy-winning composer, will “infuse her distinctive, haunting (music) cues” to the movie. Inspired by the successful jukebox musicals like Mamma Mia and Moulin Rouge, which earned eight Oscar nominations. The director, Todd Phillips, known for his bold style, aims to create something unique in the DC film.
The plot of Joker: Folie à Deux is mostly set in Arkham Asylum and focuses on the love story between Arthur Fleck (Joker) and Dr. Harleen Quinzel (Harley Quinn). Besides Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix, the movie stars Zazie Beetz, Catherine Keener, and Brendan Gleeson. Joker 2 will be released in theaters on October 4.
