Johnny Depp ropes in Riccardo Scamarcio, Pierre Niney and Al Pacino for Modigliani biopic

After 25 years, Johnny Depp is set to return to directing with the biopic of Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani. Now, Johnny Depp has roped in stellar actors for the biopic. The movie is Depp’s second directorial venture after the 1997 movie, The Brave.

Ever since the movie was announced, film fanatics globally have been abuzz with excitement since it will be Depp’s comeback as a director after following an extended break. Fans have been highly looking forward to Depp’s upcoming projects as he rebuilds his career after his infamous defamation trial with his ex-wife, Amber Heard.

The movie, which is said to be titled Modi, will begin shooting this fall in Budapest. It traces the life Italian painter and sculptor, Amedeo Modigliani across a tumultous and a thrilling 48 hours where we seen on the run from the police through the streets and bars of war torn Paris. The film is based off a play by Dennis McIntyre, and the screenplay is written by Jerzy and Mary Kromolowski.

The Pirates of the Carribean star has reportedly cast Riccardo Scamarcio of John Wick 2 fame as the titular character, Modigliani. Popular French actor Niney, who is famous for his roles in Yves Saint Laurent and Frantz, has been cast as Utrillo. Additionally, the The Godfather star Al Pacino has been roped in play to collector Gangnat.

Al Pacino is also producing the movie with Barry Navidi. The film will see Al Pacino and Depp reuniting after 12 years. Both the actors were last seen together in Adam Sandler’s Jack and Jill back in 2011. They had worked also worked together in the 1997 flick Donnie Brasco.

Depp is gearing up for the release of his Jeanne Du Barry which will open the Cannes Film Festival on the coming May 16. The movie is directed and produced by Maïwenn and starring herself alongside Johnny in lead roles.
