Jailer
On August 11th, theatres will begin showing “Jailer,” the newest film from superstar Rajnikanth and directed by Varun Doctor and Nelson of the Beast movie fame. Recently, the eagerly anticipated trailer for the movie was released to generally positive reviews from his followers. But if the trailer is any indication, the movie is reportedly a free remake of this Hollywood production.
The protagonist of Jailer is a retired man who enjoys a happy family life with his wife and two adult children. However, the Superstar’s compelling flashback is revealed when his children and family are in peril, and he confronts the thugs in his distinctive manner.
Nothing but the Baasha movie plot comes to mind when reading this, yet the Jailer trailer’s aesthetics make it appear as though the movie is a free remake of ‘Nobody’ from Hollywood. In that movie, an ex-FBI assassin returns to the game when some burglars break into his home and take his daughter’s teddy bear. Even Rajni’s Jailer appears relatively unchanged despite the addition of comedic undertones.
It seems like directors these days are just picking up the stories from other film industries. Netizens are complaining that there is no new story in the movie and everything is copied but with the change of the actor and language. People now started trolling movies like these and preferring OTT platforms instead. This has become a trend nowadays.
It goes without saying that several of Nelson’s recent films had Hollywood content influences, and we can’t overlook the same for Jailer too. The audience is intrigued by his funny writing and signature entertaining, so let’s wait for the movie.
