Ira Khan, the daughter of Aamir Khan and his first wife Reena Dutta, has frequently discussed her struggles with depression. She recently revealed that one of the things that made her depressed was when her parents divorced. Even though the divorce was “amicable,” Ira claimed that it nevertheless had an effect on her mental health. She disclosed in a social media post that she had been given a clinical depression diagnosis more than five years prior.
Ira opened up in a show that her therapist had told her that one of the things that had caused her melancholy was the separation of her parents. However, she added that while she doesn’t ‘blame’ them for her mental health issues, she does believe that Reena and Aamir led her to believe that getting divorced “was not a big deal.”
Ira developed certain ideas about her parents’ ‘amicable’ divorce, but she never shared them with anyone. She then “blames herself” for having sadness and thinks that one must be depressed to experience love from others. Ira now wants to live a happy life, therefore she must “systematically undo” all she has done up to this point.
