Dulquer Salmaan
It was never Dulquer Salmaan’s plan to pursue a career in the film industry. Nevertheless, around 20 million people follow the shooting star of Indian cinema on social media and know his movies even more. Today, he’s a star of Indian cinema, encompassing much more than the internationally known Bollywood.
There was a time when Dulquer used to be very shy, even to attend a talk show, but celebrating over a decade of cinema, he shared his experience and process of evolving. He said, “I came into the industry literally terrified, insecure and completely unsure of my future. I used to wonder if people would be open to watching me onscreen for two hours. There were so many doubts in my head.
He added, “I took one film at a time, and I stuck to my guns about the things I wanted to do. I didn’t want to do remakes and sequels. I didn’t want to do bilinguals then because they weren’t working well. If you told me ten years back that I would go on to work in four languages and be recognized and accepted, I wouldn’t have believed you.”
However, Dulquer is juggling five turfs at the moment. There’s the Malayalam industry, where he is a reigning star and has come out of the shadows of his father to build a stellar fan base. Then there are the Tamil and Telugu industries, where he has been busy making inroads and has been part of some big hits with his boyish innocence.
