Dr. Strange: Multiverse of Madness released this week is weaving magic at the box office. It’s raking in millions of dollars all over the country. In Tollywood, three more movies Bhala Tandanana, Ashoka vanamlo Arjuna Kalyanam and Jayamma Panchayati released this week. Out of the three, even though AVAK has gained positive talk, the Strange effect was evident on the second day. The Marvel movie overshadowed all the releases and doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon. On the second day and even though it’s weekend Saturday, tickets are available for all the Telugu movies whereas DSMM is running housefuls with all the tickets sold.
This is the scene all around India too. In this process, the DSMM gained the fourth-best openings ever for a Hollywood movie in India. The Marvel movie amassed a whopping Rs. 33.50 crores at the box office according to trade pundits. Only three other Hollywood movies, (of course they are Marvel Cinematic Universe(MCU) movies) are ahead of Dr. Strange’s madness, namely… Avengers: Endgame, Infinity War, and No Way Home. Back in 2016, Doctor Strange’s debut movie collected a lifetime collection of Rs. 35 crores in India which is surpassed by its sequel this time in just one week. It is estimated that the opening weekend of DSMM will be around Rs 100 crores at the least which is eye-grabbing.
For the last few years, the following of MCU movies in India is increasing exponentially. As more people are tasting the magic of international movies through the widespread OTT platforms, this doesn’t come as a surprise. In the near future, there might even be a day when the Indian movies would be postponed because of a Marvel release.
