Did you know Mammootty was first choice to play baddie in Rajinikanth’s Jailer?

Thalaivar and Mammotty

Rajinikanth’s Jailer has emerged as the biggest hit at the box office with raving reviews from the audiences. The film’s antagonist, Vinayakan, received a good response for his performance. However, did you know he wasn’t initially the first choice for the villain role in Jailer? Malayalam megastar Mammootty was considered to play a negative role opposite Rajinikanth in Nelson Dilipkumar’s directorial.

Actor Vasanth Ravi, who portrayed Rajinikanth’s son in “Jailer,” has indeed confirmed that Mammootty was initially being considered for the role played by Vinayakan. According to the media, the actor reportedly mentioned, “Mammootty sir was the first choice for the villain character.

Rajini sir himself had told me. When Nelson sir said Mammootty would be an ideal choice, Rajini sir called Mammootty and told him. But later they had second thoughts. He is such a huge star in Malayalam and Rajini sir said he felt bad making someone like him do such a role.”

It appears that Rajinikanth felt that a character with negative shades wouldn’t be suitable for an actor of Mammootty’s stature. Consequently, he personally contacted Mammootty and discussed the matter, expressing that they should collaborate on a different film instead.

The decision to not cast Mammootty in the role was mutual, and Vasanth Ravi noted that he also agreed with this choice. He further mentioned that he suggested they work on a movie together in the future. Rajinikanth has once again solidified his position as a reigning superstar with the resounding success of his theatrical release, “Jailer,” marking his return after two years. The movie is setting new records at the box office.

Rajinikanth’s performance, Mohanlal’s cameo, Nelson Dilipkumar’s direction, and various other factors have left a strong impression on the audience. Produced by Kalanithi Maran of Sun Pictures, the film features an impressive ensemble cast including Jackie Shroff, Shiva Rajkumar, Tamannaah Bhatia, Sunil, Ramya Krishnan, Vinayakan, Mirnaa Menon, and Vasanth Ravi. Anirudh Ravichander is responsible for the music, and Vijay Kartik Kannan has taken charge of the cinematography.
