About a year ago, the Hindi film industry faced a slump when movies like Laal Singh Chaddha and Raksha Bandhan didn’t perform well at the box office, despite having a promising release period.
Fast forward to now, Gadar 2 and OMG 2 have brought positive times for Indian cinema. Gadar 2 had a strong start, while OMG 2 also had a decent opening day. Initial calculations suggest that both films together have earned around Rs 47-48 crores, with Gadar 2 contributing approximately Rs 39 crores and OMG 2 making around Rs 9 crores.
Sunny Deol’s action movie, directed by Anil Sharma, has achieved the second-largest opening of 2023, whereas Akshay Kumar’s comedy-drama, directed by Amit Rai, has secured the eighth best opening. Pathaan continues to hold the record for the top opening of the year among Hindi films in both India and worldwide.
While both Gadar 2 and OMG 2 are sequels to successful films, Gadar 2 has a stronger presence in pop culture. Unlike Gadar 2, which received a U/A certification, OMG 2 was rated A, resulting in fewer family audiences. Saturday’s pre-sales indicate that both films are expected to experience growth from their first day.
