‘It Ends With Us’ is a novel that became increasingly popular in India after it’s publication. Written by an American Author Colleen Hoover, the story has scattered bits of true incidents where Lily grows up in abusive household, dreading the presence of her father. As a teenager, she’s close to a guy named Atlas who’s so poor he lives in a broken attic with no blanket on freezing nights. In the round of helping him, they both fall in love until one day he disappears. Growing up, Lily gets attracted to a man named Ryle who she decides to get married to. Unfortunately, that’s when Atlas comes back in her life and her dug-deep love surfaces again. Ryle, to Lily’s shock, is abusive. Despite that, she continues giving him chances but decides to divorce him when she’s on the operation table giving birth to her daughter.
The book was a nerve-wracking experience, especially for abuse survivors. However, Colleen’s personal life ‘choices’ slowly turns her friends into foes. There was news that her son was allegedly in a sexual assault incident which she ‘defended’. Also, she released colouring books of the novel which the fans trolled her for. Now, there’s a movie adaptation coming out and the readers are horrendously disappointed by the cast selection.
Starring Blake Lively as Lily, and Justin Baldoni as Ryle, the movie has locked the date of February 9, 2024. The production faced a setback due to a writers’ strike, the filmmakers are optimistic about completing the rest.
