Civil War, the dystopian action film written and directed by Alex Garland, is the most controversial film of 2024.
The politically provocative new thriller, has sparked debate since its South by Southwest premiere in March 2024.
The action fillm depicts a near-future U.S. at the climax of a civil war where the two most populous states have seceded. Rather than explaining the politics that landed the country in such chaos, “Civil War” focuses on a group of journalists who document all avenues of the conflict.
The film is based on real events and follows a team of journalists who travel across the United States during the rapidly escalating Second American Civil War that has engulfed the entire nation between the American government and the separatist “Western Forces” led by Texas and California.
The film documents the journalists struggling to survive during a time when the government has become a dystopian dictatorship and partisan extremist militias regularly commit war crimes.
