Bollywood action star Akshay Kumar-led Mission Raniganj: The Great Bharat Rescue, directed by Tinu Suresh Desai, will look for better spot bookings than the poor bookings it has registered. It is reported that the film sold 6,000 tickets at National Chains on opening day.
Mission Raniganj is a thriller film directed by Tinu Suresh Desai. The film, which stars Kumud Mishra, Parineeti Chopra, and many others, was finally released in theatres today. Based on one of India’s most outstanding rescue operations, the film sold only around 6,000 tickets in the top 3 national chains for the opening day in India. This is the lowest for an Akshay Kumar starrer, even lower than the forgettable Selfiee, which sold around 8,000 tickets in top national chains on the opening day. The movie will heavily rely on positive word of mouth and strong spot bookings to secure a below-average opening at best.
Since post covid, Akshay Kumar has not had a single hit from multiple releases. From a commercial standpoint, Mission Raniganj is a significant film as it is right in the slot of the kind of Akshay Kumar films that audiences have appreciated in the recent past, like Baby and Airlift. Post-pandemic biopic is a genre most filmmakers have avoided since it is less commercially viable than it was previously. The film was made with an estimated budget of ₹ 120 Cr. including advertisement costs, production costs, screen costs, marketing costs, and other expenses.
The film received positive reviews from critics and is heading towards an opening day of around Rs 4 crores. The momentum will be strong over the weekend if the evening shows are good.
