Case filed against Nawazuddin Siddiqui

Nawazuddin Siddiqui who is a famous Bollywood actor has landed in trouble with his latest soft drink ad. A case was filed against him and the CEO of the Indian division of Coca-Cola by a Kolkata-based lawyer for hurting Bengali sentiments. He raised objections over a line in the Bengali-dubbed version of the commercial.

The ad is about the Sprite soft drink. The ad was originally shot in Hindi and that was fine but the dubbed version of the ad in Bengali is what caused the trouble here. The lawyer said, “The main advertisement by Coca-Cola for its product Sprite was in Hindi. And we have no problems with that. We only have a problem with Bengali dubbing of the ad which is running on various TV channels and websites”.

He further added, “Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui is laughing at one of the jokes, which says, ‘shoja anguley ghee na uthley, Bangali khali petey ghumiye porey’. In English, it means that if Bengalis don’t get anything easily, they sleep hungry. And this, we think, hurts the sentiments of the Bengali community. We want this type of shallow act and gimmicks to not be promoted in the future.”

For which, the company stated that it “regrets the recent ad campaign for the cold drink and that the company respects the Bengali language”. It is also been said that the Bengali ad was taken down.
