A VFX studio has sued Marvel Studios and Disney for stealing technology!

Marvel Studios

The VFX company Rearden claimed that Marvel Studios used its patented MOVA technology to animate significant characters in its popular Avengers films.

The Walt Disney business runs the possibility of losing a significant percentage of its earnings from the last two Avengers films, according to a lawsuit filed by Rearden, a VFX business that claims Marvel utilized its patented technology to animate important characters in the blockbusters. However, The Hollywood Reporter alleges that a federal judge dismissed a portion of Marvel’s lawsuit.

Rearden claims that DD3, a company with whom Disney collaborated on a significant amount of VFX for hit films such as Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), Beauty and the Beast (2017), and the last two Avengers films, Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019), did not own the technology used in these films.

However, the Walt Disney Company has denied charges in a case that is part of a long-running legal battle at the junction of Hollywood and Silicon Valley over the use of allegedly stolen VFX technology to animate some of the company’s most recognizable characters in its highest-grossing films.

A federal judge dismissed Rearden’s copyright infringement accusations on Thursday, saying that the company could not support assertions that its lauded VFX technology was widely employed in the production of Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. The court deferred a decision on whether Disney infringed on the VFX company’s patent.
