Bhola Shankar stands biggest loss project ever in Telugu states

Bhola Shankar

Chiranjeevi’s movie “Bhola Shankar” has proven to be a disappointment at the box office, leading many fans to openly express their disappointment with yet another remake from the Megastar. Right from its announcement, the film was surrounded by doubts about its box office performance.

While there was a glimmer of hope that Chiranjeevi’s popularity would contribute to its success, Meher Ramesh’s conventional direction, a predictable and outdated storyline, and a lacklustre screenplay ensured that the film failed to attract a substantial audience.

The rights for “Bhola Shankar” in the Telugu states were estimated at around Rs 76 crore, but the movie faced a significant drop in collections on the first Monday, with single-digit shares collected in each territory. Today marks the final day for the film’s run, and when considering shares solely from the Telugu states, the total doesn’t even reach 20 crores.

The producers have incurred a loss of around 60 crores, including prints and publicity expenses, solely in the Telugu states—a situation unprecedented in the history of Telugu cinema. The disappointing outcome of “Bhola Shankar” should serve as a wake-up call for the Megastar.

It’s now imperative for him to focus on projects that offer a strong narrative and ample opportunities for showcasing his talent. While remakes can sometimes bring benefits to stars, maintaining stardom, in the long run, relies on embracing originality and engaging stories.
